Two years ago today, in one of my not-best decisions, I bought my current DD - a 2002 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor. Currently at 177k miles and substantial weight-reduction-by-oxidation, I treated it for its not-really-birthday by going to Autocross (third time I’ve gone, but the first time in about a year and the first time since I got my GoPro).

Kinja'd!!!

I had a blast, wasn’t the slowest time (somehow), and got some good videos. The two I’ve put on Youtube so far are below. These tires are old, hard, and dryrotting, and were almost bald before I went. You can imagine how they are now.

Every run of the day I dropped my front tire pressure a little bit more and it got better and better (this car has serious front-end grip issues in this environment, but long sweeping turns the rear comes right around). Sadly since it was a longer course we only got in 7 runs for the day (typically here we get 8-10) so I could have done a bit better. That said, I had fun and was very pleased to do 59s flat (best time of the day was a high 46, average was about 53).

Car is about as stock as it gets, the only thing not-oem equivalent are the shocks, which have been compared to stock police shocks and found to be about the same, but don’t last as long. They’re also 1/3 the price.

Enjoy.

More of this. At a local autocross a girl had brought an Interceptor and put it on Dunlop direzzas with the alloy wheels the CV’s could come with. From my spotters tower it looked like she was having a blast. Its somewheres in my postings...
